Practical Tools

Three ways to interrupt negative thinking.

1. Name it out loud. The thought 'I'm a failure' has more power than the sentence 'I am having the thought that I am a failure.' Adding the frame creates space between you and the spiral.

2. Move the body. Two minutes of walking does what twenty minutes of analysis cannot. The mind is downstream of the nervous system more often than we admit.

3. Wear the cue. A word, a piece, a literal physical reminder of the self you're practicing. Cognition is fragile. Objects are not.
